1. High Net Worth Individual
To be recognised as a High Net Worth Individual, you must certify that either of the following applies:
You have had an annual income of £100,000 or more in the last financial year. (This excludes one-off pension withdrawals.)
You have net assets of £250,000 or more. (Net assets exclude your primary residence, any mortgage or equity release against it, your pension or pension withdrawals, and rights under insurance contracts. Net assets are calculated as total assets minus liabilities.)
2. Self-Certified Sophisticated Investor
To qualify as a self-certified sophisticated investor, an individual must confirm that at least one of the following applies:
They are a member of a business angel network or syndicate and have been so for a minimum of six months.
They have made more than one investment in unlisted companies over the past two years.
They are, or have been in the previous two years, professionally involved in private equity or in providing finance to small or medium-sized enterprises.
They are, or have been within the past two years, a director of a company with an annual turnover of £1.6 million or more.
3. Sophisticated Investor
You may qualify as a sophisticated investor if, in the past three years, you have received a certificate from an authorised firm confirming your understanding of investment risks, including those associated with alternative investment markets. You must also be able to provide the name of the certifying firm.
